Thinking about replacing my ‘03 Pathfinder... This one’s got three pedals! Are these good trucks? Any known issues? Could I remove the huge graphics on the doors...?

They haven’t changed in like a decade. Depending on the year, mpgs are down relative to their competition.

What year? I swear I can’t tell the difference between the ones made within the last decade.

There was minor update in 2009. The V-shaped grille shell is less pronounced and the bumper is rounder and projects 80 mm further forward, but the six-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels or optional 18-inch alloy wheels are the biggest change.

Do the interior quality/mechanicals still suck?

My friend just bought a 3-pedal 2015 XTerra Pro4X (basically the same thing) and I really like it. As others have noted, it is basically a 2005 design that was based on a 1999 design. This is both good and bad. I think the infotainment (if equipped) is sort of meh, but that could be said for almost every new car. Also I think the gas mileage was not great. Low 20s maybe?

In the top trim European models.

Not bad for a brand new, 14-year-old truck. They are 90% of a Tacoma in terms of durability and reliability, and 60% in terms of interior quality, at 70% of the price. Manual gearbox is supposed to be good.

Oh, sweet. I knew he had picked this up (a great find!), but forgot it was the Pro4X. Might have to go check it out this weekend.

2015 40k miles certified

This one’s a 2015.

Hmmm... The 6 speed shouldn’t have the same problems as the auto, but I’d be careful with it. Nissan has been in a bad rut recently. You would think their quality would be better since they have not changed almost any of their lineup in a decade...

So the top Euro trims are worse than the American base trims?

100% go. Only issue I know of IIRC were radiator and timing gear issues in the earlier trucks.

This one’s certified, with 40k on it, so that helps.

Nice, thanks.

How much warranty time would that add?

To 2022 or 100k miles.

I’m usually anti Nissan truck, but if you like it, go for it. The 6 speed makes the difference.

I’ve only driven the standard 4x4 version not the pro 4X. I would buy it in a heart beat and not feel bad at all. I don’t do any extreme off roading, just soft roading and need 4wd mainly for snow and ice.
The interior is very dated but functional and not offensive. I like the seating position and I love the nissan engine.
The short box annoyies me to no end, I would get at least a 6 foot bed otherwise it’s close to useless for homedepot runs.

Im for them. Buddy of mine has a non pro he’s been running on the trails with us for years. Been reliable and capable. Yeah the mileage is poor but better than mine so he doesn’t hear it from me.
The pro 4x has a Dana 44 rear that pretty much will never break with the payload rating it has and the engine is stupid tough. fully boxed frame, discs all around. Sure the interior’s dated but big deal. put an aftermarket double din unit in there if you need the fancies for electronicals.

Nothing wrong with a Fronty, especially a 6spd. Pro-4x is a nice kit, a little flashy -that is a very blue colour. Hard to lose in a parking lot.

If my dad fit in one, my parents would definitely have one right now. They’re an amazing value; in fact, it’s better to go newer to get a backup camera, etc. I love the look of that one; the Nissan dealer by me has a used Xterra in that color and it’s gorgeous.
On another note, if you like manual transmissions, you can easily get a new Frontier extended cab for under $20,000.

Thanks for the input - I’ve got a trailer if I need it for longer/bigger stuff.

I like the blue, just not the huge stickers.

quick googlefu brings up a ton of threads on removing them, looks pretty easy.

I’ve heard good things about Frontiers. Keep in mind rear door opening/back seat is very small.

You’re welcome. Probably not 4WD, obviously, but the basic S extended cabs still come with a backup camera. They’re hard to find, but the SV extended cab adds on power windows and locks, as well as a manual and backup camera. They can probably be snagged around 20 with good deals.

Theyre good trucks. Its the TRD tacoma by Nissan. Just as capable off road too, but not as much rear seat room as a taco-few inches. a design just getting verrrry long in the tooth. I dont know anything bout their manuals’ reliability. Ten years ago or so, Michael Jackson’s keyboard player drove me to taco bell once in his new one. Said it easily tows WAY more than rated. (I had no idea at the time it was him. Real chill dude.) They’re nice, especially the leathered out models.

FYI - https://jalopnik.com/at-26-990-could-this-2014-nissan-xterra-pro-4x-prove-1825648817
So I kind of fell in love with the idea of that Frontier from the listing, but when I went to drive it, it was just okay. I’m wondering how much of my impression is related to the tires they’d put on it (Hankook Dynopros, I think) - it was very nervous at highway speeds. Since I want to be able to drive whatever I buy a few times to work each week - 60 mile roundtrip - looks like I’ll be sticking with my old Pathfinder for a while longer.
